Long Live The Queen!!!
So, if you've listened to the podcast, you've probably already figured out that I love Beyoncé. I know people use the word "love" lightly, but I try not to do that. Therefore, when I say that I love her, I looove her. Not in an off, unhealthy way either (I know you all were side eye-ing me). I remember being nine years old and seeing her in the "Bills, Bills, Bills" Destiny's Child video and was absolutely enamored by her. Ever since, I've followed her career and supported her. There are those people who you connect with regardless of, well, actually knowing them or rather, not knowing them.
Now that I've been transparent about my rather large bias, I'd like to (as the title suggests) talk about Beyoncé. I'm not going to go into her whole career right now but just a bit about what she's been up to in the past year or so:
•Performed and traveled for the On the Run II World Tour
•Rolled Out her Ivy Park/Adidas collection
•Established the Formation scholarship
•Blessed the world with HOMECOMING
•Starred as Nahla in the Lion King
•Released a companion album ~ "The Lion King: The Gift" (I highly encourage you to check it out. It is a masterclass in blending the African Diaspora into one unified sound. Once you hear it, you’ll know exactly what I mean!)
She did all of this while being a wife, daughter, sister, friend, and mother to three kids. Amazing! One of these accomplishments paired with just one of these identities would be enough to inspire awe; but no, this woman has done ALL of that and more! I think her greatest contribution is her public passion for Feminist and Black Power movements. A great example is the documentary/album, "Lemonade". It is a masterpiece that weaves the personal and political into one cohesive narrative of pain, betrayal, forgiveness, and redemption. That was enough to secure her status as the GOAT; but then, my girl performed during BeyChella and transformed the damn game. If you haven't witnessed the genius of Homecoming, I suggest you hop on your auntie's Netflix account and be forever changed.
I need not provide any further evidence that Beyoncé is a LEGEND. If for some reason you don't agree, this post probably isn't enough to make you see the light. But, that's okay because fact is fact regardless of those who deny it ;D
Colorfully,
