I’m saddened to even have to write this, but I gained clarity doing so. I hope it brings you one step closer to healing.
I’ve been putting most of my energies into donating, signing petitions, and contacting my local representatives (you can find out who to contact here); but I put off posting. How do I find the words to encapsulate what’s happening? It turns out that I needed only to refer to Scripture to find clarity in this moment.
I am MAD. I am OUTRAGED. I am INFURIATED. If you think that’s just bcuz of what recently happened, you’re wrong. I stay mad, outraged, and infuriated. It is the enduring state of every enlightened Black person. It’s only times when we’re extremely raw that we allow others to bear witness. The pain that is overflowing the streets of America is not new. The only thing new is people of other cultures/races actually giving a damn. But, we need more than caring...we need action. If you’re non-Black, you must work to make your own culture anti-racist and use your privilege to demand Black-centered legislation. Start with Color of Change, Black Lives Matter, and The Movement for Black Lives to find out next steps to take.
To my fellow beautiful Black people, I SEE YOU. Your anger is righteous, your grief is valid, and your joy is necessary. How we create culture while dealing with these hostile circumstances is nothing but God’s Grace. I am in awe of our resiliency, strength, and power. Our tireless work has made America better for every other community. It’s now time to demand and ensure that America finally does better for us. Our fight is a righteous one, blessed by the Lord...let the awareness of His Presence heal our wounds and re-energize our Spirits.
