Hello, Beautiful Voters!
I want to provide an update on the 2022 Midterm Election. According to the pundits, this election was going to be a “red wave” and swing in huge favor of Republicans. Unfortunately or Fortunately, depending on your politics, these midterms went against historical trends because the President’s party, the Democrats, held the Senate and gained ground in state races (i.e. Governor, State House, State Senate, and Secretary of State).
THE RUNDOWN:
The Senate: The Senate is currently 50 Ds & 49 Rs. Democrats will have the majority and Senator Chuck Schumer will be the Majority Leader. There were several tight races; but the Democrats didn't lose a single seat. Conversely, the Republicans lost one seat {PA elected John Fetterman (D)}. Depending on the results of the GA Runoff Election between Senator Raphael Warnock and Herschel Walker, the Democrats could expand their majority.
The House: The House is currently 222 Rs & 213 Ds with two outstanding races yet to be called. The Republicans will have the majority in the House though who their Speaker will be is still in contention. Republicans expected to gain 20-40 seats. Only winning the House by a few seats is a disappointing result for Republican leadership. Yet and still, they will have the majority for the next two years.
Governors: Democrats gained two governorships (Arizona and Pennsylvania) and Republicans lost two. Two additional states, Michigan and Minnesota have Democrat trifectas meaning Dems have control of the governorship, state house and senate. All of the Republican candidates who promoted the "Big Lie" lost in swing states.
Bonus: Maryland and Missouri voters legalized recreational marijuana in their states. So if you’re a resident of either state, get ready for the chance to go higher⬆️😉 (get it?😆)
